The ACT Housing Solutions Innovation Group (HSIG), is a forum open to people living and working in the Canberra region.
Vision: People with disability in the ACT have equitable access to appropriate housing that meets their needs and is sustainable.
Mission: HSIG works, through both direct action and advocacy, to promote the housing rights of people with disability in the ACT.
The ACT HSIG makes regular submissions to the ACT Government's budget process. It also makes submissions to other key consultation processes such as the NDIS Review. You can access these using the links on this page.
Registered HSIG participants can access further information to the members site here.
2024 Focus Areas
The HSIG's current focus areas are:
- Addressing barriers in the Private Home Rental market for people with disability
- Responding to the Disability Royal Commission's Final Report on housing-related items
- Responding to the NDIS Review's Final Report on housing-related items.
Meetings
All are welcome to attend the HSIG's regular online meetings. These are intended to enable the ‘brokering of information’ between various parties in order to support people with disability to achieve suitable housing solutions. Participants include people with disability, government agency representatives, and NGO representatives.
They also provide an opportunity to galvanise and act on priorities which reflect the objectives listed to the terms of reference:
ACT HSIG Objective 1
To support all people with disability of all ages in the ACT to achieve suitable housing outcomes, through both advocacy and concrete, time-based actions. This includes through:
- Collaboration across sectors to address barriers and unmet demand
- Gathering and sharing information, for all people with disability and others
- Informing government policy direction, legislation, and implementation.
This may include through collaborative work undertaken by HSIG working groups.
ACT HSIG Objective 2
To provide a forum at which key and emerging issues for people with disability in the ACT can be discussed and addressed.
